Lewis D. Detmering

Lewis Delen Detmering, 66, went to be with our Lord after a long, fulfilling life, on Sunday October 29, 2017. He was born on February 22, 1951 in Newark New Jersey to the late Lewis William and Florence Astrid Delen Detmering.

An avid bowler and fisherman who loved the ocean, “Big Lew,” as he was affectionately called by all who had the pleasure of getting to know him; would best be described as a dedicated and intensely hard worker. He took much pride in his roofing and contracting abilities. In his free time, Lew had a fantastic green thumb and could usually be found in the garden. His true passion in his life, was his family. Lew loved to laugh and smile, especially when it came to telling jokes, or playing little pranks. With a heart as big as his stature, Lew will forever be missed as a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Left to cherish Big Lew’s memory are his sister, Karen Detmering of Mountainville, New Jersey; his brother, Peter Detmering and his wife Pam of Medford, New Jersey; his three beautiful daughters, Sarah Kearney and her husband, Christopher of Loris, South Carolina, Megan Hunt of Conway, South Carolina & Emily Detmering of Charleston South Carolina; the mother of his daughters, Carolyn Hunt; his adoring granddaughters, Haley, Stephanie, Makayla, Caitlin, & Maille; his nephew, Kyle Detmering; his niece, Anna Detmering; as well as his grand-dogs, Handsome & Frito; his “Risk Playing” buddies of New Jersey; his best friends, Jeff Wilison and Brian Galvin; close friend and neighbor, Louie Watts; and his long time best friend, Mike Manemit, Sr. & his son, Mike Manemit, Jr; as well as a large loving, extended family and friends, all who had the honor of knowing Lew through the years.

Along with his parents, Lew is preceded in passing by his grandson, Christopher Kearney and his beloved fur-babies, Nellie & Jackie.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday November 4, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Hillcrest Cemetery, Hwy 544, Conway, SC.

At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Big Lew’s name may be made to the The Lions Club, https://www.lcif.org/EN/support-our-work/donate-no...
