Mr. Vivien Dunkin “Smitty” Smith, 94, received his last call on Thursday January 4, 2018 at his home in Murrells Inlet. He was born on February 15, 1923 in Gate City, Virginia to the late Lloyd and Theona Babb Smith.

Along with his parents, Smitty is preceded in passing by his son, James Kenneth “Smitty” Smith, his three sisters, Margie, Virginia & Delia as well as his nephews, Joe & Ricky.

Smitty was drafted to proudly serve his country by the United States Army- Air Force Engineers where he was stationed at Fort Lee. Upon his honorable discharge, Smitty went home to Oxon Hill Maryland, where he worked as a security guard and was a volunteer firefighter for 13 years. Following his relocation, he dedicated 22 more years with Clinton, Volunteer Fire Department and finally upon moving to Murrells Inlet, he was proud to give 13 more years to our local Fire Department.

In his free time, Smitty loved to bowl, and was known as, “The Great White Hunter,” in his Hunting Club where he continued to drive himself and “hunt,” still, at the age of 93. This was his passion! He was active in the American Legion Post #178 in Murrells Inlet, and will forever be remembered as a loving husband, adoring father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to so many.
