Kathryn W. (Katy) Hoyns, 80, of Murrells Inlet, SC passed away peacefully on Monday, October 30, 2017 at National Healthcare in Garden City, SC following a brief battle with pneumonia and late life struggles with Alzheimer’s Disease.

She was preceded in death by her father Ellis Warren, mother Lavina Keefer Warren, and brother, Robert Warren. Katy is survived by her loving husband of fifty years, Albert F. Hoyns of Murrells Inlet; two daughters, Barbara Lawrence and her husband Robert of Cambridge, MD and Diane Hoyns of Lusby, MD; two sons, Randall Hoyns and his wife Martha of Myrtle Beach, and Douglas Hoyns and his wife Joanne of Chesapeake, VA; brother, Charles Keefer and his wife Cheryl of Shippensburg, PA; grandchildren, John Lawrence and wife Jennifer of Stewartstown, PA, Katy Ziegler and her husband Dustin of Bel Air, MD, Hannah Hoyns and Michael Hoyns of Chesapeake, VA; four great-grandchildren, Lindsey Lawrence, Jacob Lawrence, Zachary Lawrence and Scarlett Ziegler; two nieces and one nephew.

Katy’s kindness to others was one of her true gifts in life, spreading warmth and love and joy to everyone she met, whether young or old, kind or gruff, dearly loved or hardly known.

Born on December 11, 1936 in Fayetteville, PA, Katy grew up on her grandparents’ farm and attended high school in Chambersburg, PA before working at the Chambersburg Engineering Company for 10 years. In 1964, she was crowned Queen of Chambersburg during the city’s Centennial-Bicentennial Celebration. That same year, she moved to Baltimore, MD and embarked on what would become an accomplished 27 year career with the Western Electric Company and later AT&T. During that time, she attended Loyola College in the evenings, earning a Bachelors Degree with Magna Cum Laude honors in 1981, followed by a Masters Degree in 1983. Katy headed departments in Customer Service, Engineering, and Sales before retiring as the Director of Marketing for the Eastern Region (Mid-Atlantic States) and moving to Pawleys Island, SC in 1993. During retirement, she was honored to serve on the Executive Board of the E. Craig Wall Fellows Program at Coastal Carolina University.

Katy was an active member of St. Paul’s Waccamaw United Methodist Church in Pawleys Island, SC, where she served on the Administrative Board and many committees, as well as serving as President of the United Methodist Women’s organization and enjoying a fulfilling membership in P.E.O. International, a philanthropic organization promoting the advancement and education of women. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling at home and abroad, playing golf, sewing and being a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

A celebration of Katy’s remarkable life and legacy will be held 11:00AM Saturday, November 11, 2017 at St. Paul’s Waccamaw United Methodist Church, 180 St Paul's Pl, Pawleys Island, SC 29585.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made in her name to St. Paul’s Memorial Fund, or to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund (curealz.org).
