William O. Kope

William O. “Bill” Kope passed away on July 15th, 2025 at Georgetown Memorial Hospital in South Carolina.  He was 87 years old.  Bill was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Jo Kope, his son Robert K. Kope, his brother John J. Kope, Jr, his sister Janice Heilener and his parents, John J. Kope, Sr and Elizabeth “Elsie” Tatina Kope.  He is survived by his daughters, Michelle R. (Kenneth) Silva and Stacy A. Kope of South Carolina, his grandchildren Jennifer and Sean of Northern Virginia and two great grandchildren.  

Bill was an active member of the Lutheran Church for 67 years.  He was a Deacon, Elder and Youth director at First Lutheran Church in Texarkana and a Deacon at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Harrison, AR.  He was an avid fisherman and hunter taking his family and friends to enjoy these past times with him.  He was also a model railroad hobbyist, always setting aside a room in his house for building the trains and background boards to run his trains on. 

Bill retired from the Federal Government (Dept of Defense and Dept of the Army) in 1991 where he held roles as Material Management, Foreign Country Liaison, and Inspector General traveling frequently to over half the states in the US and two three foreign countries.  

A private memorial will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Texarkana on Wednesday, July 30th at 1:00 PM where he will join his wife, Jo.  In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for a donation to Saint Michael & All Angels Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4303 Wheeler Rd, Martinez, GA 30907.
