Walter Christensen Obituary

Walter Allen Christensen, 82, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at AMG Specialty Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina.

Born on July 8, 1943, in Point Pleasant Borough, New Jersey, Walter was the son of the late Eric Robert Christensen and Ann Sofia Nilsen Christensen. He is now reunited with his parents, his beloved brother, Erik Christensen, and his cherished niece, Tracy Christensen.

Walter leaves behind the love of his life and wife of over 50 years, Linda Christensen of Pawleys Island, South Carolina; his son, Brian Christensen, and daughter-in-law, Sarah, of Boca Raton, Florida; his sister, Greta Christensen of Pawleys Island; as well as cherished nephews and their families, along with countless dear friends whose lives were made brighter by knowing him.

A proud alumnus and former football player at the University of South Carolina, Walter's love for the Gamecocks was a defining part of his life. During the early 1960s, he earned scholarships in both football and track and field, competing in shot put while representing the university he would support for the rest of his life. His years as a Gamecock student-athlete instilled in him the determination, discipline, and competitive spirit that carried him through every chapter of life. Long after his playing days ended, Walter remained a passionate Gamecock, proudly sharing stories of his time at Carolina and cheering on the Garnet and Black every chance he got.

While athletics were a source of pride, it was Walter's character and love for people that left the deepest impression. He possessed a larger-than-life personality, an infectious enthusiasm, and a rare gift for making everyone feel welcome. Walter never met a stranger. Whether meeting someone for the first time or reconnecting with an old friend, he had a way of making every conversation meaningful. His laughter, warmth, and genuine interest in others created friendships that lasted a lifetime.

An avid golfer, devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend, Walter found great joy on the golf course, especially when sharing a round with family and friends. Some of his happiest moments were spent enjoying the game he loved, creating memories, exchanging stories, and strengthening the friendships he treasured. He embraced life with gratitude, humor, and unwavering optimism, finding joy in time spent with those he loved most.

Walter's legacy is one of friendship, loyalty, kindness, and love. He lived fully, loved deeply, and brought joy to those around him. Though he will be profoundly missed, the memories he created and the example he set will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
