Walter Betyeman Obituary

Walter R. Betyeman, 83, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Sunday July 4, 2021 at his home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. He was born on March 2, 1938 in Orange, New Jersey to the late Raymond Louis Betyeman & Gertrude Dorthea Robins Betyeman.

Along with his parents, Walter is reunited in death with his beloved sons, Walter Rayomnd Betyeman, Raymond Betyeman & Roy Betyeman.

Walter proudly served our country in the United States Navy from 1955-1959, aboard the USS Forrestal. Following his honorable discharge and return to New Jersey in 1960, Walter went on to become a dedicated police officer for the Mountainside New Jersey Police Department.  He then moved on to Union County Prosecutor’s Office, where he retired in 1986 as Detective Sargent. The hardworking man he was, Walter then went on to work security for Brown & Wood Law Firm, within the World Trade Center, for over 20 years.  In his free time, Walter was an active member of the Mountainside P.B.A Local 126, the New Jersey Narcotic Enforcement Officers Association, (N.J.N.E.O.A) as well as the 200 Club of Union County. Following his family’s relocation to Murrells Inlet, Walter enjoyed golfing, bowling and above all else, spending time with his family. Walter will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his bright smile, compassion for others and love for his family.

Left to cherish Walter’s memory are his adoring wife of 61 years, Annemarie Betyeman of Murrells Inlet; brother, Charles Betyeman; sister, Karen Nickerson; daughter, Donna Cieslinski, her husband Darryl, their children Nicole, Rachel Matt & Vinny of Fanwood, NJ; son, Kevin Betyeman and his son Kevin Betyeman of Bridgewater, NJ; son, Raymond Betyeman and his children Allyson, Jenna & Logan Betyeman; daughter, Kathleen Malhosky, her husband, William and children, Patrick & Jake Malhosky of South Plainfield, NJ; several nieces, nephews and cousins; a large loving extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.
