Theodore Raymond White

Theodore Raymond White, 80, of Murrells Inlet, SC, known to friends, family, and colleagues as Teddy or Ted, passed away Saturday, May 6th, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Teddy was born on November 9, 1942 in Kingstree, SC to the late Dr. Russell William White and Lucille Lausch White. He and his five siblings were raised in Lake City, SC but spent a lot of time in Surfside Beach, SC.

Teddy will be remembered as the man who never met a stranger!  He loved spending time with his family and friends and always had many (outrageous) jokes to share.  He loved all sports, but most importantly those at his alma mater, the University of South Carolina.  Teddy was a man of great loves: fishing, walking on the beach, dancing (shagging), and especially his wife Diane.  He also loved the color garnet but detested the color orange!

Teddy served his country in the US Army. He was honored to serve in the 3rd US Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) which is the oldest active-duty infantry unit in the US Army. He worked at John Umstead Hospital in Butner, NC for many years and retired as the Business Manager. Teddy also worked as a real estate agent for Tidewater Properties for approximately 16 years.

In addition to his parents, Teddy is preceded in death by his brother, Russell White of Houston, TX and his sister, June Carter of Los Lunas, NM.

Teddy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Diane White, sister Susie Viser (Joe) of Houston, TX, sister Sandra Hardin of Murrells Inlet, SC, brother Dennis White of Murrells Inlet, SC, and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Teddy’s Life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday May 20, 2023 at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Hwy., Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.  The family will receive friends at the funeral one hour prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
