Susan B. Smith, 74, adored mother, Susu, friend, sister and wife passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Thursday, December 4, 2025 while at her home in Georgetown, South Carolina. She was born in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late Frank Earley, Jr. & Fannie Sue Hicks Earley.
Along with her parents, Susan is reunited in passing with her brother, Frank Earley, III.
Susan was a hardworking woman with a heart of gold and a spunky zest for life. She spent her early years at home caring for her 3 small children, teaching, crocheting, sewing, gardening and doing whatever it took to make things work. Later, in her working years outside the home, she had a variety of experiences. Some of those were in bookkeeping, property management, and she was a skilled paralegal who took pride in helping those in need. She was smart and well-educated and always willing to guide.
Most important to her were her faith and family. In her free time and following her well-deserved retirement, Susan enjoyed using her time participating more fully in a worldwide Bible education work. She found peace being outdoors. Especially so at the beach or at her secret sunset viewing spots near the water where she could dream of the real life to come and pray to and thank her Heavenly Father for all of his gifts. She took the most pride in caring for and cooking for her family. Bountiful southern cooked meals, breads, and confectionary delights (including her famous fudge) continuously graced the table along with her beloved Susu breakfast; perfectly cooked bacon, eggs, grits, and toast (sometimes even for dinner). To Susan, food was love. If you were sick, sad, lonely, or just because, she was bringing you food! She loved her family with her whole heart. Their greatest comfort during this most difficult time is found at Revelation 21:3,4 and John 5:28,29. She will forever be remembered for the truly amazing and loyal mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend she was.
Left to cherish Susan’s memory is her husband of almost 2 years, Mr. William Smith of the home; her son, Jacob Moorefield and wife, Claudine of Boise, Idaho; her daughter, Mindy Holder and husband Scott of Wilmington, NC; her son, Samuel Moorefield and wife Leah of Puerto Rico; William's son, Ryan Smith and wife Liz of Myrtle Beach; grandchildren, James Moorefield, Leslie Holder, Austin Holder, Madison Holder & Abigail Holder; sister, Deborah Earley of Indian Trail, NC; brother, John Earley and wife, Mary of Indian Trail, NC; beloved niece, Jamie Harrison; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many supportive friends and neighbors.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, December 14, 2025, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 5905 S. Fraser St., Georgetown, S.C. 29440. For those unable to physically attend, a zoom meeting has been set up for viewing, to join please see information below.
