Sondra Davis-Keys Obituary

Sondra Lea Davis-Keys, 77, died at home in Myrtle Beach, SC on March 13, 2024. She was born in Harrisburg, PA on November 2, 1946 to Regina Jeanette and William Evans Smith, Jr., who predeceased her.

She is survived by her daughter, Yolaunda Jeannette “Jeannie” O’Shea and husband John; twin brother William Gilbert Smith and wife Donna; grandchildren Lauren Sheets and husband Jeff; Aiden McConnell and wife Emily; and Logan McConnell; great-grandchildren Avery, Jaxson, and Peyton Sheets; nephew Andrew Smith; and many cousins and their families, as well as her four step-children John Keys; David Keys and wife Sharian; Tom Keys and wife Cheryl; Debbie Dobson and husband Roger; grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Sondra was born in Harrisburg, PA, but grew up in the Washington DC/Northern Virginia area. She graduated from Fairfax High School in 1964 and worked at numerous and varied jobs over the years, including savings and loan manager, waitress, movie theater assistant manager, and hair and wig stylist. For 17 years, she put her creative floral design talents to work when she joined her mother in the family florist business, Master’s Touch Creations.

In August 1991 she married the love of her life, Calvin Keys. In 1993, upon his retirement, they moved from the Northern Virginia area to Myrtle Beach, SC.

She was a consummate crafter in many different media, especially crochet, and won numerous ribbons for her needlework and gardening skills at the Prince William County Fair, where she was also a judge and Fair superintendent. Later she exhibited and sold her work at arts and crafts shows in the Myrtle Beach area.

Sondra’s love of animals, domesticated and exotic, was well known. Over the years, she owned a snake, a skunk, and what she especially loved, dogs. Sondra and Calvin owned several breeds of small dogs, including chihuahuas, pekingese, and teacup poodles.

She had extensive collections and displayed them throughout her house, including butterflies, hummingbirds, leopards, elephants, Elvis, and the Disney character Dopey.

Sondra had a kind heart, was a loyal friend, and enjoyed helping others in any way she could, including being a caregiver, assisting in financial matters, or giving advice on gardening. She also enjoyed making unique craft gifts for friends and family.
