Shirley Eckert Obituary

Shirley Ann Eckert, 67, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Sunday July 26, 2020 at her home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. She was born on April 23, 1953 in Newark, New Jersey to the late Gustave & Anne (Turos) Trizna.

Along with her parents, Shirley is reunited in death with her daughter, Lisa Dawn Eckert; sister, Judith Koval; brothers in-law, David Eckert & Michael Eckert; as well as her mother & father in-law, Matthew Eckert, Sr. & Martha Eckert.

Shirley was an outgoing woman with a heart of gold. She was a skilled administrative assistant for the State of New Jersey for many years. Following her well-deserved retirement and relocation to Murrells Inlet, Shirley was able to enjoy the finer things in life. In her free time, Shirley loved to knit and crochet. She found peace when near the water and at the beach. Shirley stayed active by participating in water aerobics and shopping with her friends. A woman of class, Shirley loved her coffee in the morning, and her wine at night. Above all else, Shirley loved her friends and family and making people laugh. She will forever be remembered for her sense of humor and love for her family and friends.

Left to cherish Shirley’s memory are her beloved husband, Matthew Eckert, Jr of Murrells Inlet; daughter, Melissa Johnson and her husband, Keith of Howell, NJ; son, Matthew Eckert, III and his fiancé, Danielle Detwiler of Myrtle Beach; brothers, Walter Trizna of West Chester, Pa & Michael Trizna of Fairfax, VA; brothers-in-law Joseph Eckert of Middletown, NJ & Paul and Ann Eckert of Roxbury, NJ. granddaughters, Olivia, Abigail & Lilah of Howell, NJ, Maddie & McKenna Johnson of Robbinsville, NJ and grandson, Kyle Johnson and many nieces and nephews; her adoring English Labrador retriever, Finnegan; a large, loving, extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.

A Celebration of Shirley’s life will be held privately.

The family wishes to acknowledge with heartfelt appreciation, the care and support shown to Ms. Shirley and her family during this difficult time. MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, Amedisys Hospice, especially their beloved nurse, Angela, and to all of their friends and family for the immense amount of love and support, we love you all.
