Shirley Blackwell Garmon

Shirley Blackwell Garmon 82, of Surfside Beach, SC went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. She was born July 22, 1943 near Blacksburg, SC. She was the daughter of the late Andrew Z. Blackwell and Darkes Bailey Blackwell. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David E. Garmon; sister-in-law Margery Sue Weaver and husband O.J.

Shirley was retired from Hershey Chocolate Company where she was employed for over 30 years. She spent most of her life in Charlotte, NC before moving to Surfside Beach, SC when she retired. 

She was an avid gardener and quilter. She also loved fishing as well as playing bingo, bridge, Mahjong and other games and puzzles with her many friends and family. Additionally, she spent countless hours researching family genealogy. She was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution.

She loved spending time with her family whom she cherished and adored. She enjoyed cooking large meals for family gatherings. Shirley could build or do anything she put her mind to. She had strong values, a positive attitude, incredible patience and the most giving heart. Her legacy will carry on forever reminding us how to love others. She will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.

Survivors include her daughter Christy Pope and husband Matt; son Edmon Garmon and wife Lesley; daughter Lisa Mustard and husband Travis; grandsons Sean Pope and wife Kelly, Seth Pope and wife Ashley, Jonas Garmon, Jacob Garmon, Jackson McAdams, Finnley McAdams; great granddaughters Annie Pope, Ava Pope and Charlotte Pope; brothers Keith Blackwell, Tony Blackwell and wife Norma, sister Christy Sittng and husband Rudy.  

A Celebration of Life will be held at Burrough's Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Highway, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576- on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 3:00pm. Visitation to follow service.
