Rosalie Cook Obituary

Rosalie Elizabeth (Baker) Cook, 87, passed away on June 20, 2026, in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. She was born on August 28, 1938, in Middletown, New York, to Kenneth and Rosalie Baker.

Rosalie lived a life filled with creativity, kindness, friendship, and beauty. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and teacher, she touched countless lives through her generous spirit, artistic talents, and the love she shared with everyone around her.

An award-winning artist with an extraordinary eye for design, Rosalie saw beauty everywhere and had a gift for bringing it to life. Her creativity was reflected not only in her artwork, but in her home, her celebrations, and the thoughtful details she added to everything she touched. Rosalie’s passion for art and creativity was one of her greatest gifts — a gift she lovingly shared with generations of students during her more than 25 years as a dedicated teacher in the Minisink Valley Central School District.

Rosalie loved bringing people together. She was a gracious host who created unforgettable gatherings where every detail was thoughtfully considered and every guest felt welcome. She treasured time spent with friends, including the many wonderful friendships she built within the Blackmoor community. Adventurous in spirit and always ready for a little mischief, Rosalie embraced life with curiosity, laughter, and a sense of fun that made every moment brighter.

Her love of celebrating was especially evident during the holidays, with Christmas holding a special place in her heart. Each year, she transformed her home from top to bottom, creating a magical place filled with warmth, tradition, and love. Gift giving was truly an art form for Rosalie. Every present was chosen with care and included a personal note, making each gift as meaningful as the person receiving it.

Rosalie is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, Robert Cook, with whom she shared a beautiful life filled with family, friendship, and cherished memories. She is also survived by her loving children: John Pettit (Myriam), Kenneth Pettit (Kathy), and Tim Cook (Denise); her grandchildren, Jonathon Pettit, Lauren Cook, Ryan and Shea Steinbach, and Ecatrina Velez; her sister-in-law, Sharma Baker; her treasured nieces, Shannon Smith (Jeff) and Elisha Rock; great-nephews, Justin and Zachary Smith; great-grandchildren; extended family members; and many dear friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Kenneth and Rosalie Baker; her brother, Kenneth Baker; her granddaughter, Alisha Pettit; and her grandson, Martin Velez.

Rosalie’s legacy lives on through the beauty she created, the students she inspired, the friendships she nurtured, and the family she loved so deeply. She will be remembered for her creativity, elegance, kindness, adventurous spirit, joyful sense of mischief, and remarkable ability to make the ordinary extraordinary.
