Robert S.Y. Speirs

Robert Stewart Young Speirs, 106, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Sunday January 17, 2021 at his home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was born on December 15, 1914 in Middletown, New York to the late Alexander Speirs & Sarah McKechnie Speirs.

Along with his parents, Bob is reunited in death with his beloved wife, Ruth Decker; their children, Sally Curtis, & Robert Speirs; his granddaughter, Diane Fletcher; and his brothers, Pete, Jim, Bill & Allen Speirs.

Bob was raised on a farm in Slate Hill, NY and was a proud 1938 graduate of the University of Delhi, NY. He was a hardworking man who retired from Agway Oil Co. after many years of dedicated service. Bob was proud to be active in his community. He graciously volunteered his time to the Masons, and was a member of the Union Presbyterian Church in Newburgh, New York. In his free time, Bob loved to travel the world. He proudly traced his roots to Scotland and visited many other countries. Bob saw the world change around him, and relished every moment. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his quick, dry wit, infectious laughter and caring demeanor.

Surviving Bob is his daughter, Peggy Fletcher of Myrtle Beach.

Bob loved his family with his whole heart and was honored to have spent the later years of his life, making memories with his granddaughter, Jennifer Tigar, her husband, Brent and their daughter, Mikaylin Tigar who made it their goal for Bob to be comfortable and loved. Also left to cherish Bob’s memory are his grandchildren, Susan Fletcher, Michael Fletcher, Robert Speirs, Donna Shaw, Laura Glebe, Gary Merrill & Craig Merrill; as well as nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; a niece, several nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; a large, loving, extended family and many supportive friends.

The family will gather in Celebration of Bob’s life on Friday January 22, 2021 at 1:00PM at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Highway, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.
