Bob P. Mackey, 81, of Murrells Inlet, SC, passed away Friday, June 19, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was married to Barbara J. (Kimball) Mackey with whom he celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on May 18.
Born in Columbia SC, he was the son of the late Peter and Dorothy E (LeClair) Mackey. He graduated from Chelmsford High School with the class of 1963. He furthered his education, earning his BS in Business from UMass Lowell and his MBA from Southern New Hampshire College.
He proudly served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was inducted into the Military Order of The Purple Heart; he was also inducted into the Military Association of America.
He retired from Digital Equipment Corporation of Maynard, MA and Nashua, NH, he also worked while retired as a consultant. He was a member of the Blackmoor Country Club in Murrells Inlet, SC. He loved to golf, and was an avid Boston sports fan, as well as the family genealogist. Bob's love and support of his wife and her accomplishments led him to become an active HODAR (Husband Of a Daughter of the American Revolution.)
Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Peter and his wife Kathleen Mackey of South Kingstown, RI, Scott Mackey of Chaperall, NM, Rebecca Morgan of Manchester, NH, a step son, Christopher Worthley and his husband Christian Clough of South Portland, ME, a step daughter, Jennifer Chapman of Brownfield, ME. his sister-in-law Janet (Kimball) Lajoie of SC, eight grandchildren, two greatgrandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins, all who loved him dearly.
He was the brother of the late Lynn Applegate who passed in 1990.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, July 6, 2026 at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Hwy, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. The family will receive friends following the service.
