With sadness we announce the passing of Richard (Dick) Grosskopf (February 24, 1936 - January 13, 2026). He lived a very full and beautiful life at nearly 90 years old. He loved fishing, cooking, family and traveling all over the world with his beloved wife of 65 years, Fran. His favorite place was St. Maarten, where they traveled together every March for the last 20 years. Dick was a simple man that found enjoyment in the little things - eating a plate of shrimp, spending a day crabbing, or simply watching fish swim around in his fishtank. Despite distance, he kept in touch with his family through frequent phone calls and FaceTimes and always looked forward to any time he’d get to spend with his loved ones in person. He always showed up to all life events, big and small (from track meets and soccer games to graduations) and was so proud of his family.
Dick grew up in the Bronx. He served in the Army for 2 years, including going overseas to Korea. After marrying Fran in 1959, they moved to Connecticut to raise their family. He lived there for almost 50 years before relocating to South Carolina in 2012. Retiring down south was the best decision he and Fran made; Dick immediately felt at home in his new community, Seasons. He loved all the people he met in this final chapter of his life and made so many memories with friends that felt like family.
Dick is predeceased by his parents (Margaret and Richard Grosskopf), and his sisters (Marion Clarke and Charlotte Murphy). He leaves behind his wife (Fran), his brother (Billy), his sister-in-law and brother-in-law (Lee Beveridge and John and Sheila Vozzi), his 2 children and their spouses (Richard & Deborah Grosskopf and Debora & Roque Orts), his 5 grandchildren (Jeff, Steph, Jackson, Cole and Josh), and his nieces and nephews. Everyone will cherish the memories they made with Dick throughout his lifetime and already miss him so much.
A memorial will be held at Burroughs Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 28 from 1 - 3pm.
In honor of his love for animals and in lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the Grand Strand Humane Society in memory of Dick Grosskopf.
