The family of Regina Anita Keiter is heartbroken to announce her passing on May 1, 2026, in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Regina was born on February 5, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Katherine and Frank X. Mattson.
Regina is survived, by her loving husband, John W. Keiter, III of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, and her daughters: Kelly (Joe) Tallant, Maria Kimmell (Tom Brewer), Ginger Laprise, and Christine Boone. She is also survived by her siblings, Eline McNulty, Bob Mattson, Pat Kress and Bill Mattson.
Known affectionately as “Mom-Mom,” Regina’s greatest joy in life was her family. She leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Victoria, Libbey, and Abbylin Laprise; Hanna and John James Kimmell; and Lauren and Logan (Brittney) Boone along with her greatest, joy, her great-grandson, Lorenzo Boone. Regina’s love and devotion to her grandchildren was admired by everyone who knew her. She offered endless guidance, wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional support, always celebrating each child’s unique passions and dreams. Her love extended not only to her family, but also to every cherished fur baby she welcomed as her own.
Regina graduated from nursing school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and spent her life caring for and uplifting others. She found joy in teaching Sunday school, serving as a Girl Scout leader, and ultimately discovering her true calling as a special education teacher in Lower Merion, where she dedicated 25 years to helping children learn and grow with compassion and patience.
She was a deeply creative soul who loved reading, sewing, drawing, and knitting, but gardening was her true passion. A gifted horticulturist, Regina found peace and purpose in creating beautiful natural landscapes and nurturing sanctuaries for birds (GO BIRDS). Her gardens reflected the same warmth, beauty, and care that she brought into the lives of everyone around her.
Regina will be remembered for her kindness, creativity, wisdom, and unwavering love for her family and community. Her gentle spirit and generous heart will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
Funeral services will be held on May 14th, 2026, at 3:00 PM at St. Michael Catholic Church (542 Cypress Ave Murrells Inlet, SC 29576). The reception will be held at the Keiter Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the grandstrandhumanesociety.com in Regina’s memory.
