Raymond "Ray" Wyatt Obituary

Raymond “Ray” Wyatt passed away on June 21, 2022, at the age of 74, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. His battle of severe medical complications from a surgical procedure brought him to the gates of heaven. He spent the past month fighting for his life. He was the true definition of a Warrior.

Born on November 10, 1947, to Clyde and Pinkie Wyatt in Greenville, South Carolina, Ray was energetic and full of life. He assumed duty for his country on February 1, 1968, as a Sergeant in the Air Force. He spent 4 years in the Air Force in Germany as a Communication Center Specialists Supervisor. For those who knew Ray, his communication skills were his biggest strength.

Kim and Ray met in 1985 and married December 20, 1992. Ray captured the attention of his future bride, Kim, by sending her love notes from his store written on a paper. Ray was a hopeless romantic ensuring each day Kim knew how much she meant to him. He cherished the moments they shared together at the beach, traveling, and enjoying life. She will forever be his beautiful bride.

In his earlier years, Ray spent countless hours working in his convenience stores, building relationships with every costumer who walked through the door. Ray never met a stranger. On his evenings after work, he could be found at both of his sons’ baseball games or umpiring a game. His strike out calls could be heard from several blocks away. He was a coach, team sponsor, mentor, and friend to so many young athletes over the years who would still call him to this day to share how their lives were impacted by Ray. Relationships were important to him, and he ensured both of his sons knew how special they were in his life. His most favorite and important job in life was being a Dad. He would often be found waiting outside the school for Blake to get out and quickly take him for a game of putt-putt-golf and a night in the pool. Being a dad to his children was the best and most important part of his life.

After decades of hard work, it came time for Ray to retire in 2007. Ray wanted to live as close to paradise as he could, but stay in South Carolina, so he picked Myrtle Beach. He was a dedicated and diehard fan of the University South Carolina, Gamecocks. Gamecock football, family, friends, sun, and the sand, became what he lived for each day. Over the past 16 years, Ray spent countless hours at the beach in his favorite spot from sunup to sundown with his friends, music, and Kim. No matter how challenging some of the days were for Ray to walk down to the beach, he always made it to there, made sure to call the calvary to their “spot” and enjoy the day together. It did not take long for Ray to earn the name “The Mayor”. His personality, big heart, and his larger-than-life laugh was captivating and memorable to so many. He always made sure

everyone else’s needs were met before his own. To know Ray was to know Ray, a ray of sunshine in your day. He will be forever missed but forever in our hearts. And always remember,

Go Cocks!

He is survived by Kim (Wife), son, Blake Howard (Sheena Blue), and daughter, Angie (Jessie)

Ledford. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Pinkie, brother, Don Wyatt, and son, Travis Wyatt.
