Rachel Anita Martin, 85, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Thursday October 9, 2025 while at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She was born on November 13, 1939 in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late Jessie Alexander Martin & Lucy Isabelle Martin.
Along with her parents, Rachel is reunited in passing with her beloved daughter, Rhonda Denise Drake Riggins; brother, Donald Martin; and sister, Nina Hart.
Rachel had an outgoing personality that drew people to her. Appropriately, she worked in hospitality where she made life-long friends. In her free time, Rachel enjoyed the peace she found while crafting, especially drawing and coloring. She also enjoyed time spent in her garden tending to her many flowers and plants and in the quiet moments, Rachel enjoyed a good round of Mahjong. Above all else, Rachel loved her family with her whole heart. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her quick wit, bright smile and infectious laughter.
Left to cherish Rachel’s memory are her adoring children, Tanya Robinson, Kimberly (Lawrence) Kennedy, and Ray (Bonnie) Kirby; eight grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; sister, Sammie Walker; as well as a large, loving, extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.
A Graveside Service for Ms. Rachel will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 1508 Charles Raper Jonas Hwy, Mt Holly, NC 28120 on Saturday October 18, 2025 at 2pm. The family will gather from to greet friends from 1:30pm, until the time of service- within the cemetery mausoleum.
At the request of the family, please consider memorial contributions in lieu of flowers. Donations in Rachel’s name may be made to your local food bank. No child should go hungry.
