Priscilla Wry Obituary

Priscilla Curtis Wry, 99, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at her home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. She was born on December 24, 1926 in Bridgeport, Connecticut to the late John Burr Curtis and Hester Lewis Curtis.

Along with her parents, Priscilla is reunited in passing with her husband of over 44 years, Mr. Herbert K. Wry; her siblings, Gilbert, Mary & Ann; as well as her first husband John F. Platt.

She was raised in Trumbull, Connecticut, where she lived prior to moving to South Carolina . She graduated from Harding High School, Bridgeport, Connecticut, and Russell Sage College, Troy, New York,  where she was president of her class.

Priscilla was a woman with a heart of gold and a true zest for life. She worked faithfully for many years as a skilled secretary in both the insurance and magazine industries. Beyond her professional life, Priscilla was known for her warm spirit, gentle soul, and unwavering positivity. She never met a stranger and had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcomed, loved, and accepted. Her smile could brighten any room, and she was truly a beacon of kindness and compassion to all who knew her.

A devoted woman of faith, Priscilla was a member of Belin United Methodist Church in Murrells Inlet, where she sang in the choir and formed many cherished friendships and connections through the years. She loved people deeply and enjoyed listening to others, always offering encouragement, warmth, and understanding.

Priscilla also loved to travel, especially spending time at the family lake house in Southwick, Massachusetts. Above all else, she treasured her family. Her greatest joy came from time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren;  each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Left to cherish her memory are her four sons; John (Joan) Platt of Bethesda, Maryland, Kenneth G. Platt of Ellington, Connecticut, James (Susan) Platt of Flat Rock, North Carolina, and Craig (Mary) Platt of Trumbull, Connecticut; her two daughters, Kimberly Hewitt of Ararat, Virginia, and Karen Brewer of West Hartford, Connecticut, her ten grandchildren; Katy Miller (Jason), Joseph Platt, Maryann Platt (Tony Havens), Adam Platt (Cassie), Bryan Platt (Morgan), Amber Barry, Christopher Laudati, Jessica Laudati, John Brewer, and Robert Brewer, her great grandchildren; Annabelle, Theo and Cora Miller, Addison and Mason Platt, Mackenzie and Maddyn Platt, dear friends; Lorretta, Marge and beloved K-9 companion, McGyver; a large, loving, extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.
