Phil Huff Obituary

Phil L Huff, Jr., age 90, of Murrells Inlet, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, SC.

Phil was born to Phil L Huff and Hazel Simmons Huff on August 27, 1931 in Columbia, SC .

Phil grew up in Greenville, SC, graduated from Greenville High School and Clemson College in 1953 with a degree in Textile Manufacturing.  He spent his career in the textile industry.  He began in a cotton mill with Gaffney Manufacturing, moved on to the manufacturing of rayon products and finished his career as Director of Sales and Marketing for industrial yarns for North American Rayon. Phil was a US Army Vet and served after Clemson graduation from 1953-1956 serving at Fort Riley Kansas.

God, Family, Clemson – these were the most important things to Phil.  He was happiest when spending time with his family at home and Clemson Football games.  He was a long time IPTAY member and proud Clemson Tiger and Alumni!  He loved fried chicken, a good steak and a great hot dog and was happy to tell you his favorite places for a steak or hot dog in his many years of traveling.

Belin United Methodist Church was a very special place for him to worship and share his talents.  He guided the Rollie Hanna breakfast group for 20 years and took great pride in the fellowship it provided.

His favorite past time and a passion for him was woodworking.  He had a beautiful shop that he took great pride in and spent time there almost every day until last week.  He built many beautiful pieces for family and friends and loved to share his craft.  Many pieces of his work can be found at Belin in Sunday School rooms, meeting rooms, the cross and even in the Belin Creative Learning Center.

In addition to his parents, Phil was predeceased by his son, Phil L Huff III, son-in-law Terry Benjamin Cooper and sister Jean Huff King.

Phil is survived by his bride of 65 years, Henrietta Rose Raymond Huff, his daughters Elizabeth Huff Cooper and Hazelmarie Huff Berlin, son-in-law Edward Berlin, grandchildren Phil L Huff IV, Hannah Rose Cooper and Ryan Benjamin Cooper.

A Celebration of Phil’s life will be held Friday, November 5th at 2pm at Belin United Methodist Church.  The family will receive friends at 1pm in the Sanctuary and after the celebration at their home, 329 Jay Street, Murrells Inlet.
