Penelope White Rogers, 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at her home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. She was born on May 29, 1944, in Ashtabula, Ohio, to the late Richard King White and Ruth Augusta Hess.
Along with her parents, Penny is reunited with her brother and sister in passing.
Penny was a woman with a sparkling personality that could light up any room. During Penny’s time in Ohio and as a dental hygienist, she established lifelong friendships. In her free time, and especially after her well-deserved retirement, Penny enjoyed a quiet life; she cherished her pets and was passionate about horses. She also enjoyed skiing and golfing and was a member of the Wachesaw Plantation Club for 35 years.
Left to cherish Penny’s memory are her beloved husband, Richard H. Rogers; loving stepchildren, Laurie and Steve Karl of Eagan, MN, David and Mary Ellen Rogers of Bethesda, MD, Julie and Emmet Davitt of Cotuit, MA, and Mary and Doug Downes of Pittsburgh, PA; as well as 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins; and many wonderfully supportive friends and devoted neighbors.
A Celebration of Penny’s life will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026 at 11am at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Highway, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. The family will gather to greet friends from 10am until the time of the service. Inurnment within Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery Columbarium will be held privately.
At the request of the family, please consider memorial contributions in lieu of flowers. Donations in Penny’s name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
