Paul James Szarowicz

Paul James Szarowicz, age 79, of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, July 17th, 2026. Born in Warren, Pennsylvania, on June 9th, 1947, he was the son of the late Frank and Marie Szarowicz.

Paul had a passion for gardening and was especially fond of cars, with a cherished possession being his restored 1954 Chevy. He was devoted to his family and friends. He was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the army from 1967 -68. After moving to South Carolina in 1972, he began his career as a construction laborer but soon became a certified boilermaker, contributing significantly to the construction of boilers for Santee Cooper in Georgetown and in many parts of the United States. Paul also served as a volunteer fireman and as a Captain in Pawleys Island Volunteer Fire Department during the late 1970s and early '80s, and he retired as a boilermaker in 2005.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Szarowicz, of Pawleys Island ; A son, Terrence, Paul Szarowicz; three brothers, Peter Szarowicz of Jamestown, New York, John Szarowicz of Independence, Virginia, and Matthew Reed of Erie, Pennsylvania and a sister, Melinda Wilder of South Carolina.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Marie Gertch Szarowicz, Brothers, Mark Szarowicz, Frank Szarowicz, David Szarowicz; sister, Marjorie Wendell and his two children, Nicholas and Theresa.

A memorial service will be held at Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church, 1633 Waverly Road, Pawleys Island, SC 29585, on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church, 1633 Waverly Rd, Pawleys Island, SC  29585 or for a Mass to be said in Paul's name.
