Patricia McGlynn Obituary

Patricia Mary McGlynn, 76, passed away on Thursday July 24, 2025, at her home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. She died the way she wanted to live: at peace and surrounded by the people she loved.

She was born on March 18, 1949 in New York, New York to the late James Lawrence Turner and Winifred Delia Comer Turner. One of seven children, Tricia is preceded in death by her older brother James L. Turner.

Throughout her life, Tricia earned many titles. As a kid she was known as “the General” as she helped raise her younger siblings. As a young woman she earned a teaching degree from Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She was also a wife and protective mother of two children Margaret Kirwin of Vernon, CT and Daniel McGlynn of Richmond CA. Tricia spent her career as a middle school and high school teacher in Hebron, CT and Raleigh, NC. She taught home economics and consumer education and was widely known for her cookie days.

Mid-career, Tricia earned a master’s degree in education and a sixth-year degree, as she prepared to be a school administrator. By late career, Tricia used her training and experience to mentor younger teachers, a job she loved.

In retirement, Tricia loved to travel the world with her sister Margaret Turner of Richmond, VA. She always talked about the time she spent with her grandchildren, and took pride in teaching them to bake pies, which was one of her specialties. Tricia had a knack for being able to strike up a conversation with anyone, and had a deep network of friends in Murrells Inlet, where she retired with her husband of 54 years, Daniel P. McGlynn.

Tricia is survived by her grandchildren, Daniel Desmond Derrick McGlynn, Mattea Derrick McGlynn, Auden Derrick McGlynn, and Nolan Derrick McGlynn; sisters, Margaret Turner, Joann Thomas, and Winifred Coco; brothers, Bartholomew Turner and Robert Turner; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins that made up her large extended family.

A Celebration of Tricia’s life will be held at 10:00 am on October 9, 2025 at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church in Murrells Inlet.
