Nancy Newkirk Watts

Nancy Newkirk Watts, 64, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at her home in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. She was born on March 4, 1958 in Highland, Illinois.

Nancy had a passion for helping those in need that led her to become a skilled and dedicated teacher for many years. In her free time, Nancy enjoyed entertaining and creating lasting memories with friends and family. Nancy had an eye for beauty, a knack for decorating and enjoyed time spent in her garden. Above all else, Nancy loved her family with her whole heart. She will be deeply missed.

Left to cherish Nancy’s memory are her adoring companion, Ken Watts of Pawleys Island, SC; two daughters, Ashley Van Loon (Dean Copeland) of Grasonville, MD & Emily Watts of Blacksburg, VA; son, Chris Van Loon (Laura) of MD; one grandson, Cole Copeland of Grasonville, MD; her mother, Josephine Swift of Pawleys Island; three brothers, Charles Newkirk Jr. (Jody) of Broken Arrow, OK, Phillip Newkirk (Allison) Wilmington, NC, John Newkirk of Pawleys Island; one sister, Sally Monaghan of Mt. Pleasant; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; a large, loving, extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.

Nancy is reunited in passing with her father, Charles J. Newkirk, Sr.

A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held 2:00pm Sunday, February 5, 2023, at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Hwy, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time from 1:00-2:00pm at the funeral home.

A graveside service for Nancy will be held privately.
