An adult long Poultney resident before retiring to Myrtle Beach, SC.
Nancy Emily (Heath) Jones, 90, a longtime resident from Poultney, VT, who retired to Myrtle Beach, SC passed away peacefully, at her home, as she wished, on December 24, 2025, following a long illness.
Nancy was born on February 1, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York, to S. Burton Heath and Emily Dodge Heath. She grew up in Darien, Connecticut, where she graduated from high school.
Nancy went on to attend Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont, where she met the love of her life, Paul Price Jones, whom she later married. Poultney became her cherished home, and through her marriage she lovingly became a sister-in-law to Paul’s sixteen brothers and sisters, as well as their spouses, a role she embraced with warmth and devotion. She was also a beloved sister to, Burton Dodge Heath, and his lovely wife, Linda (Hood) Heath.
Nancy was a devoted mother to four children: Paul Terry Jones (d), Paula Ann Jones (d), Edward Burton Jones, and Timothy Allen & Linda (Emond) Jones. She took immense pride in her family and found great joy in being a grandmother to Schuyler Byrne, Noah Byrne, Ashley & (Mike) Zuzevich, and Heidi & (Jared) Baker, and a great-grandmother to Kensington Byrne, Benjamin Zuzevich, Jack Zuzevich, and Heath Baker. She was also a loving aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Professionally, Nancy was a talented seamstress and a dedicated elementary school teacher’s aide. She deeply loved working with children and spent many years supporting students in the elementary school. Nancy also had a passion for arts and crafts and was an enthusiastic participant in local craft ventures and festivals.
Nancy was a pillar of the family for as long as everyone can remember. Her home was the place where holidays were held and family gathered. It was the constant presence across generations all at once. The walls held decades of memories and hours of laughter.
Known for her determined spirit and strong personality, she left an impression on everyone who knew her. She was opinionated, resilient, and deeply rooted in her role as the family matriarch. Though not without her challenges, she was an enduring staple in the lives of those around her.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held at the Poultney American Legion at 1pm - 4pm on February 14th, 2026.
