Michael "Mickey" Merl Vogel

Michael Merl Vogel, 60, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday June 18, 2026, while on vacation in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. He was born on September 29, 1965 in Orange, California to the late James Vogel & Ann Virginia “Ginny” Sheridan Vogel.

Along with his parents, James & Ginny, Mickey is reunited in heaven with his beloved canine companion, Chewbacca “Chewy” Lewis.

Mickey was a hardworking man with a zest for life, a generous spirit, and a heart of gold. He embraced every day with enthusiasm and never missed an opportunity to create lasting memories with those he loved. A devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, Mickey loved his family with his whole heart and was happiest when surrounded by them.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of more than 23 years, Jennifer Wilson-Vogel of Kentucky; their children, Cameron Vogel (Jayne Kay) of Georgia, Brennan Vogel (Lydia Parrott) of Ohio, Michaela Vogel, Bayleah Vogel (D’vion Davis) and Isabella Vogel all of Kentucky; and his cherished canine companions, Bones and Kylo Roo.

He is also survived by his brother, Brigadier General Kurt Vogel and wife, Major General April, of Virginia, along with their son, Brody; his stepmother, Patricia "GiGi" Vogel; sister Paige and husband, Scott Beckman, along with their children, Grace, Claire & Scotty, all of Ohio; sister Kerry and husband, Scott Sprague, along with their children, Danner & Burson, all of Ohio; as well as a large extended family including in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins; a large, loving, extended family and an army of supportive friends and neighbors.

Mickey loved cooking and sharing meals with family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, although he often joked that he loved the destination far more than the traffic getting there. He had a passion for movies, especially classic films, and was an avid golfer for many years. Mickey loved game nights, especially those involving cards, and it was not a family holiday party without him leading everyone in song. Some of his family's most treasured memories came from Mickey's famous "Dad-Ventures"—creative family outings filled with fun, laughter, and unexpected adventures. He never met a stranger and delighted in discovering local hidden gems, always searching for the best hole-in-the-wall restaurant and authentic local cuisine wherever his travels took him.

Mickey deeply loved his country. Though hearing loss prevented him from serving in the military, he held tremendous respect for those who did and instilled that same appreciation and respect in his family.

Mickey's legacy is one of love, laughter, adventure, and unwavering devotion to his family. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the love he shared will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

A Celebration of Mickey’s life will be held privately in Greater Cincinnati at a later date.
