Michael Smith, 43, of Surfside Beach, SC passed away on June 12, 2026 unexpectedly. Born on November 19, 1982 in Natrona Heights, PA Mike led an eventful life with many ups and downs. In his younger years, Mike was involved in roller hockey and was a Pittsburgh Penguins fan. He also enjoyed working on his car and listening to music. His most recent employment was as an employee at Food Lion where he was considered part of the Food Lion family. His manager described Mike as always very nice, courteous, and had an excellent way of helping customers. Mike enjoyed the company of his Jack Russell Terrier Daisy for many years. He also had dreams of becoming a pilot and had made efforts to begin attending flight school in Myrtle Beach.
Mike was an uncle and loved his niece and nephew Luna and Milo Smith greatly and enjoyed spending time with them and buying them gifts. He was always up for a change of scenery and enjoyed visiting his brother and his sister-in-law Cory and Olga Smith in Morgantown, West Virginia. Mike also helped take care of his mother Judy Smith who lived nearby and was always providing her with things to do and help him with as well.
Mike is preceded in death by his father Dusty Smith and is survived by his mother Judy Smith, his brother Cory Smith, his sister-in-law Olga Smith, and his half-sister Jennifer Smith. We hope Mike has been freed from the struggles he endured in life and is at peace but we miss his presence greatly.
We would ask that in lieu of flowers his friends and loved ones consider a donation in his name to Russell Rescue, Inc (russellrescue.com) to help support his favorite breed or consider a donation to your local humane society. A celebration of life for Michael will be planned at a later date.
