Michael W. Settle

Michael W. Settle, age 45, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 28, 2018 after his courageous battle with cancer. He was born October 23, 1973 in Roanoke, Virginia to father Calvin Settle and mother Sandra Patterson. He graduated from William Byrd High School in 1991. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life Kristie Settle on November 13, 1993. The couple lived in Franklin County Virginia until moving to Myrtle Beach, SC in 2002. Although the couple would remain in Myrtle Beach, Mike was a die-hard University of Virginia fan at heart.

Mike was always known as a hard-working family man. His days started before the sun came up and never missed a beat. No matter how hard times got he would always find a way to provide for his family. He is known all over the greater Myrtle Beach area from his work as a delivery driver for US Foods.

On October 24, 2018 Mike was diagnosed with an advanced stage glioblastoma. He valiantly proceeded with a rigorous treatment plan, and just like his work he didn’t take a day off. He never complained or let the side effects bother him, that’s just who Mike was.

He is survived by his mother, Sandra Patterson, father Calvin Settle, wife Kristie Settle, one sister Kimberly and her husband Alan Scott. He leaves behind his daughters, Hayley and husband Justin Handsel, Courtney Settle; son Austin Settle and a granddaughter, Emma Handsel.

A celebration of Michael’s life will be held 1:00pm Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Hwy, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Michael’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
