Michael Menefee Obituary

It is with great sadness that the Menefee family announces the death of Michael Menefee. He passed on August 22, 2021, at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet, SC, after a tortuous battle with Covid-19. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Mary, his daughters Heather and Michelle, his son Eric, his brothers David and Mark and their spouses Claire and Wanda, his sister Mary Thomas, and his sister-in-law Ginny Napier. His oldest sister, Lynne Overton, was unable to be there, but she was there in our hearts. Michael operated and managed his Machine Shop in Chantilly, VA, for 25 years as well as his Machine Shop in Murrells Inlet, SC, for 5 years after retiring there in 2014. He had the distinct pleasure of working side-by-side with his daughter, Heather, as well as his wife at both of his Shops. His work ethic was exemplary and beyond compare, and he passed that trait on to his children. Michael was very active in his daughter, Michelle's, life during her teenage years playing softball. He coached her on numerous occasions. He then coached all 3 of his children when they played adult co-ed softball in Manassas, VA. He served in the Navy for 4 years from1973 -1977. His son followed in his footsteps and served in the Navy for 5 years from 2016 2021. These are just a few examples that are a testament to the loving husband and father that he was. The VA will be playing "Taps" and presenting the flag to his family at a private ceremony at their home in Murrells Inlet. His grandson, Aubrey, will be present for the ceremony. Michael had the ultimate joy to be present in Aubrey's life every day. He was the apple of Michael's eye. His family plans to take a trip to the island of Diego Garcia to scatter his ashes in his favorite place. They ask for your thoughts and prayers as they grieve.
