Michael J. Boyd, Sr., 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Arbor Landing of Pawleys Island, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on January 15, 1943, in Bayside, New York, Michael was the son of the late Joseph and Rita Cotter Boyd.
Michael lived a life defined by service, devotion, and love. He proudly served his country in the United States Army for six years, achieving the rank of Corporal. Following his military service, he returned home and began a distinguished 28-year career with the Suffolk County Police Department on Long Island, New York, where he dedicated himself to protecting and serving his community. In December 1999, Michael and his beloved wife, Doris, made South Carolina their home and built a life centered on faith, friendship, and family.
Michael found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved traveling, golfing, fishing, reading, gardening, and spending time outdoors. Above all, he treasured time spent with those he loved most. He also adored his dog, Mikey, whose companionship brought him great comfort and happiness.
A devoted member of All Saints Church in Pawleys Island, Michael found strength and peace in his faith and deeply valued the friendships he formed within his church family. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, warm heart, sense of humor, and unwavering love for others. His legacy will continue to live on through all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Michael shared 57 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Doris—the love of his life and his steadfast companion through every season. He was a devoted father to his three children: Tara Lynn Guido and her husband, James, of Annapolis, Maryland; Michael J. Boyd, Jr. and his wife, Christy, of Bainbridge Island, Washington; and Stacey A. Peña and her husband, Jorge, of Northport, New York.
He was a proud and loving grandfather to Jacob Guido, Christian Guido, Zachary Guido, Nolan Boyd, Hazel Boyd, Santana Peña, and Cruz Peña. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Bruce Riekert and his wife, Cecelia; his sister-in-law, Louise Riekert; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, caring neighbors, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by his presence.
A Celebration of Michael’s life will be held at All Saints Church in Pawleys Island, the small chapel within the cemetery- on Friday June 19th at 11am..
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions in Michael’s honor be made to All Saints Church, 3560 Kings River Road, Pawleys Island, SC 29585, or online at All Saints Church Giving.
