Mary Lou McDonough Obituary

Mary Lou McDonough, 79, of Murrells Inlet, SC, formerly of Metro Atlanta, GA, died Friday, June 5, 2020 at Embrace Hospice House of the Grand Strand.

Mary Lou was born on July 17, 1940 in Passaic, NJ, to the late Frank Chipolone and Virginia Ruggiero. Mary Lou was a beautiful mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a competent, capable and fiercely independent lady.  She had a charm that instantly drew people to her.  She maintained a lovely home in Murrells Inlet and delighted in having friends and family visit. She was extremely creative, which was evidenced in the way she always beautifully decorated her homes.  Mary Lou had an extraordinary way with plants, making them grow and thrive. She was a member of several card groups and played as often as she could.

Mary Lou loved to travel and enjoyed having family and friends accompany her on her many adventures.  She was a very savvy money manager, no matter how small the budget.  When raising her family, she always managed to plan a fun-filled annual family vacation. She had a tremendously generous heart, always sharing whatever she had with her family.

She loved to laugh and had a fabulous sense of humor.  Mary Lou was very pretty, a natural beauty, even at 79 years old. She was a delicate flower wrapped in a “tough cookie” attitude, never revealing any weakness.  She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, with all of her heart.  She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was a member of Saint Michael’s Catholic Church in Murrells Inlet.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Joseph McDonough.

Surviving to honor the memory of Mary Lou are; three daughters, Denise M. Neas (Steve) of Lexington, VA, Tracy Bryan of Alpharetta, GA, Kelly Carringer (Chris) of Toccoa, GA; four siblings, Frank Chipolone of Somers Point, NJ, Kathy Cathey of Murrells Inlet, SC, Chuck Drees of San Francisco, CA, Ginny Drees of Somers Point, NJ; five grandchildren, Abby Poulos, Nicolette Bryan, Christopher Carringer, Will Bryan, Zachary Carringer.

A memorial Service will be held at a later time.
