Mary Alice Catherine Kerslake, 88, formerly of East Brunswick, NJ passed away peacefully at home in South Carolina, with her loving family by her side on October 26, 2023. She was born on January 25, 1935 in London, England and emigrated to the United States in 1965.
Mary was a woman of extraordinary grace, intelligence, and boundless compassion, whose presence illuminated the lives of all fortunate enough to know her. Mary had a bright personality and a heart of gold. She proudly volunteered for the East Brunswick Rescue Squad for over 50 years, holding numerous offices including both Captain and President, as well as a delegate to the NJ state First Aid Council. She taught first aid and CPR to hundreds of people, including members of first aid squads, fire companies, and the general public, as well as recruits at the Middlesex County Police Academy.
Mary’s faith in God was paramount in her life. She was a long-time congregant of St James Episcopal Church parish in Edison.
Mary was a guiding light and an embodiment of understanding and love. Her kindness knew no bounds, and her wisdom was a wellspring of comfort and solace to those who sought her counsel. She was a remarkable soul who touched the lives of many with her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering friendship. She leaves behind a legacy of inspiration and love. She will be remembered for the amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend she truly was.
Mary was predeceased by her son, Alan W Kerslake and her husband, David B Kerslake.
Left to cherish Mary’s memory are her children, son Christopher J Kerslake and wife Elaine of Howell NJ, daughter Diane Eaton and her husband Wally of Conway SC; her grandchildren Catherine DeHanes and husband Adam, Michael Kerslake and wife Kaitlin, Melissa Sheffield and husband Brian, Jessica Kerslake, Harry Eaton and fiancée Kristin, Emylee Kerslake; and great-granddaughter Austin Sheffield.
A Celebration of Mary’s life will be held at a future date.
