Marta T. Gielstra

Mrs. Marta T. Gielstra was born in Makkum, Netherlands, in the Dutch province of Friesland. In their hometown, she met the love of her life, Cornelis “Neal” Gielstra. They immigrated to the United States in 1966, raising their sons in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  Marta worked in fashion and had a memorable career at Pine Lakes Country Club and the Foxy Lady. There she created a strong community, supported her colleagues, and used her sophistication and impeccable sense of style to dress everyone from fashion contestants in the local, regional, and national pageants, prom queens, and the everyday person seeking a fresh look. Marta’s practical and adventurous nature, kindness, and strong sense of fun nurtured her family and many friendships. The family is grateful for her friends and their care. She is preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Jan DeVries, brother Andries, sister Annelies, and daughter-in-law Mary. She is survived by her husband, son Simon, and his wife Kelly; son Glenn, and his wife Erin; and son Johan, and his wife Dianna; daughter Annette, and her eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. They celebrate her life, and she is missed.

Family and friends will be contacted for a memorial service in June.
