Marion Hoch Obituary

Marion Parnell Hoch, 89, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Wednesday May 18, 2022 at her home in Surfside Beach, South Carolina. She was born on July 21, 1932 in Lake City, South Carolina to the late James T. Wise & Ruth McCutcheon Rogers.

Marion was a hardworking woman with a heart of gold. She relished time spent with family and making memories with friends. In her free time, Marion loved playing card games such as canasta, Sheng ji, bridge and rummy. She loved teaching her grandchildren how to play and passing along tips and tricks to each game. Marion found peace tending to her beautiful garden and caring for her flowers. The selfless and faithful person Marion truly was, attended First Presbyterian Church of Myrtle Beach for many years. She humbly dedicated her time, efforts and energy to Thornel Orphanage, where she had the honor of working for several years in the upstate. Above all else, Marion loved her family with her whole heart. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for her caring demeanor, love for her family and expertise in card games.

Left to cherish Marion’s memory are her children or as she affectionately referred to them as her “darlins’,” Kenneth Parnell and wife, Katie of Atlanta, GA, Gisele Cribb of Surfside Beach, Anna Marsh and husband, Gregg of Hemingway, SC & Roger Parnell and wife Mary of McClellanville, SC; grandchildren, Stephanie P Leach, Candace “Nikki” Reinike, Eddie Cribb, Adril O'Neal, Justin Marsh, Chelsea Cantey, Hank Parnell, Jr., Kegan Parnell, Patrick Tierney and Allison Tierney; fifteen great-grandchildren & two great-greatgrandchildren; sisters, Barbara McElveen & Geri Storm both of Myrtle Beach; as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins; a large, loving extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.
