Margaret Bard Obituary

Margaret Ann “Peggy” McCartney Bard, 86, of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on May 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family, just three weeks shy of her 87th birthday.

Born on May 30, 1939, in Tarrytown, New York, Peggy was the daughter of late Diane Arsenault McCartney and John “Jack” McCartney. Peggy was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Bard, in 2010; and her brother, Richard “Dick” McCartney, in 2009. She grew up in North Tarrytown, now Sleepy Hollow, New York, and graduated from North Tarrytown High School.

Peggy worked as a secretary for Nestlé in White Plains, New York, and later for Reader’s Digest in Mount Kisco, New York. It was through her work that is where she met her husband, Joseph Bard. The couple married on February 4, 1967, and made their home in Mahopac, New York, where they lovingly raised their two daughters and spent more than 25 years together before eventually relocating to Murrells Inlet in 1993.

Peggy was a woman who cherished family above all else. She was known for her warm heart, wonderful sense of humor, and the joy she found in life’s simple pleasures. She loved music, singing, dancing, sewing, puzzles, card games, golf, cooking, and baking—especially chocolate cake. She enjoyed old movies, flowers, and spending time with family and friends. Peggy also dearly loved her cat, “Little Girl,” and was devoted to her Catholic faith as a communicant of St. Michael Catholic Church.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Chloe Bard of Murrells Inlet and Denise Tucker and her husband, Robert Tucker, of Murrells Inlet; her beloved companion, Gary Misner of Murrells Inlet; her grandchildren, Amy Bard of Pontiac, Michigan, and Andrew Bard and his wife, Holly Bard, of Seattle, Washington; and her great-grandson, Salem Bard of Seattle, Washington. She is also survived by her brother, Jim McCartney and his wife, Terri, of Murrells Inlet; her sister-in-law, Marie McCartney of Athens, Tennessee; and her nephews, John, Daniel and his wife Jennifer, Steven, and Michael and his wife Cindi, along with several great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the hospice nurses, from Gentiva and Amedisys Home Health, as well as the many friends and family members who loved and cared for Peggy throughout her life.

A Right of Committal will be held on Monday May 18, 2026, at 1pm at St. Michael Catholic Church Columbarium 542 Cypress Ave Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund https://curealz.org/ or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America https://alzfdn.org/donate/

Peggy will be forever loved, deeply missed, and always remembered in the hearts of those who knew her.
