Madlynn McKnight Obituary

Madlynn Marie McKnight, 8, received her wings after a valiant and courageous battle with Retts Syndrome on Friday September 4, 2020 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. She passed peacefully in her mother’s arms.

Maddie was a sassy, spunky, bubbly and fun loving child who was strong willed and resilient. Nothing could slow her down and she did things her own way. When she got the hang of her walker, she was affectionately known as, “Speed Racer,” and had the honor of running the bases at Pelican Stadium. Maddie loved the simple things in life. She loved swimming in the pool, going to the beach; she enjoyed Christmas time, Christmas ornaments and relished watching her brothers play football. Maddie’s infectious laughter and bright personality brought so much joy and light to all who knew her. She was the apple of her parent’s eye and her sibling’s biggest cheerleader. Maddie will be very deeply missed but remembered for her strength, determination, tenacity and positivity. May she rest peacefully.

Left to cherish Maddie’s memory are her adoring parents, Jessica Berry & Edward McKnight of Myrtle Beach; her loving siblings, Michael, Joseph, Kaitlynn, James, Edward "Eddie", & her twin sister with whom she had a special bond with, Jacklynn “Jackie” McKnight; her maternal grandparents, Michael & Susan Berry; paternal grandmother, Carol Ann (Quinn) Bell; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins; a large, loving, extended family and many supportive friends, neighbors and classmates.

Maddie is reunited in passing by her paternal grandfather, Thomas “Pop-Pop” William McKnight, her greatest Uncle Jamie, maternal great-grandmother, Ann Berry; great-grandfather, George Hermann; great-great-aunt, Madeline Staples (Maddie’s namesake); great-pop, James Peter Quinn and his wife, Ruth “G-G” Catherine Quinn; and her great-grandma, Dorothy Jean McKnight.

A Celebration of Maddie’s life will be held at a later date. The details will be announced when finalized.
