Madeleine “Maddy” (Bisson) Asselin
April 3, 1935 — March 14, 2026
Maddy passed away peacefully during the early morning hours of Saturday, March 14, 2026. She almost made it to her 91st birthday.
What a great lady she was! What a wonderful mom! She loved life; she loved her family; she loved to meet new people; she loved to cook and to entertain; she loved to dance; she loved a good party...she just loved! But the last few years brought dementia...advanced dementia! Over time, she lost track of the things she loved.
She followed her husband to the United States in 1967. She didn't speak English, she struggled, but she took classes and learned to speak, read, and write the language. She eventually became a citizen.
She is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, Amedee “Ray” Asselin; her three children: Suzanne (Reggie Kruszewski), Marc (Teri Montana) & Bruno (Kim Bragg); and five grandchildren, Meghan, Jaime, Katie, Ryan, and Tyler and her great-granddaughter, Kennedy.
She was born in the village of St. Marguerite, Quebec, Canada and was the third oldest in a family of eleven. She was preceded in death by her parents Allanda Fecteau and Wilfrid Bisson as well as her brothers Jean-Charles (Suzanne Rodrigue), Bernard (Mariette Parent-deceased), Jean-Paul (Rose-Annette Jacques-deceased) and Georges (deceased) as well as her sister Collette (Valere Jean-deceased) and is survived by brothers Raymond (Aline Morin), Claude (Raymonde Laliberte), and sisters Louise (Paul Morin), Nicole (Yves Morin), Georgette (Andre Fortin).
A Committal Prayer with placement within the church columbarium will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church, 542 Cypress Avenue, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576 at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026 followed by a reception at the Clubhouse of The Village at Queens Harbour Condominiums.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association in her memory.
