Linda Jean Mercy was born in New York on May 30, 1945 and gained her wings on January 5, 2022. Linda spent most of her youth in New Jersey before moving with a family of her own to Virginia. In Virginia, while raising her own family, she was the ultimate neighborhood mom, always serving up love and delicious food. She raised and is survived by two daughters: Jennifer Mercy of Manassas, Virginia, and Heather Harrison who lives in Myrtle Beach, SC with Linda’s beloved son in law Michael Harrison and granddaughters Hannah and Madison. She is survived by scores of friends in South Carolina, and “found family” and close friends in Virginia.
Linda’s amazing artistic gifts included needlework, making jewelry, intricate beadwork, decorations of all kinds (beloved by dozens of people whose Christmas trees will forever be adorned by Linda’s work), and when asked why she never sold any of her work she answered in typical Linda fashion by saying “because I just love giving them to people.” That personified Linda’s amazingly generous spirit which was evident to anyone who knew her. If she ever heard you mention your favorite food, she would show up with that food (lots of that food) the next time she saw you. If she knew what colors you loved, you could be sure she would show up with a hand-stitched, hand-beaded, hand-made gift of some sort in your favorite colors.
Linda’s generosity with people was matched by her love and generosity for animals. She fostered and nursed countless animals back to health over the years. A lifelong lover of cats, she took in any number of abandoned kittens and cats in her lifetime. Her generosity knew no bounds with either animals or people. She lived a life of selfless love and dedication to her family, friends, and the communities lucky enough to have her.
Her family will be receiving visitors between 2:00 and 4:00 on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Burroughs Funeral Home at 3558 Old Kings Highways, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to an animal rescue or shelter of your choice.
