Leon Baker Obituary

Leon Alan “Lee” Baker, 82, passed away Monday, September 28, 2020.  Born in Dillsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Norman and Mildred Rider Baker and brother of the late Gloria Ann Winn.

Following his graduation from Northern High School, he moved to Mechanicsburg, PA before eventually making his home in Pittsburgh.  A proud US Veteran, Lee served his great country in the US Air Force.  He retired as a production manager with US Airways (currently American Airlines) following numerous years of dedicated service.

In 1982, Lee married the love of his life, Sally in Pittsburgh, PA.  Following Lee’s retirement, they moved to the southern coast in Murrells Inlet in 2012.  They found their church home immediately following their move and joined St. Michael’s Catholic Church where they were active parishioners.  Lee was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Knights of Columbus.  He was also a Eucharistic Minister a Rosary Leader, and a member of the Cenacle. 

In addition to his beloved wife Sally, Lee is survived by his children, Deanna Ferrell (J.K.), Deneen Schroyer (Henry), Charles Baker (Tanya), Richard Whorf, Paula Whorf, Jeffrey Whorf (Danielle), Amy Davis (Dean), and Brian Whorf (April).  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ian, Katie, Sarah, Nathan, Joseph, Amy, John, Nathan, Zackery, Calvin, Bennett, Phoebe, Callista, Sophia, Olivia, Jacob, Simon, Luke, Eliana, Owen, Colin, great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Miette, and Cecillia and nieces Suzanne and Lisa.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2020 at St. Michael's Catholic Church.  

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Michael’s Church, 542 Cypress Ave, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.
