Karen Park Obituary

Karen Haynes Park, 72, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Tuesday October 13, 2020 at her home in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. She was born on January 5, 1948 in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late Andrew William "A.W." Haynes & Cora Belle (McRorie) Haynes.

Karen was a graduate of West Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. While in Charlotte, Karen married the love of her life, Grif on July 12, 1987. Karen took over her mother’s family greenhouse business in Charlotte, and upon their relocation to Garden City in 1989, Karen  went on to own and operate the local greenhouse, “Plant It Earth.” Following her well-deserved retirement, Karen perfected her favorite hobby, fishing.  Whether on the pier, surf, or boat, her love and talent garnered her the nickname, “Flounder Lady.” In her free time, and in addition to fishing and gardening, Karen was a very talented artist, well versed in media including watercolor, clay and mosaic. Her eye for the beauty of nature shone through in all of her hobbies. Karen truly inspired everyone who met her. She will be deeply missed but remembered for her artistic abilities, zest for adventure and her infectious laughter and smile.

Left to cherish Karen’s memory are her adoring husband, Mr. Griffin Taylor Park, Jr., of Murrells Inlet; children, William Brian Sharpe & Kelly Baker Pruitt and her husband, Mikey; step children Eddie Park & Jennifer Park; grandchildren, Zachary Corrado, Will & Kyle Sharpe, Milo DiLorenzo; great-granddaughter, Emersyn; a large, loving extended family and many supportive friends, neighbors and patrons.

A Celebration of life will be 4:00 PM, Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Burroughs Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Theron Floyd officiating.
