Joycelyn Sikora "J.J." Obituary

Joycelyn J. Sikora, “J. J.”, age 83, passed away Thursday July 28, 2022 at her Myrtle Beach home.

Formerly of Sussex County, Georgetown, DE, and Lodi, NJ, Ms. Sikora was born in Passaic, NJ, the daughter of the late Adolph Scarcella and Catherine Labarba Scarcella.  She enjoyed photographing birds and nature, music, reading, the fine arts, psychology and the sciences, art crafting, sculpting, playing bocce ball and always had an interest in becoming involved with community development and projects.  She also loved researching and educating others on many subjects, topics and points of interest.

Ms. Sikora was a member of Fairleigh Dickinson University; B.A Psychology; New School for Social Research, NYC, M.A. Psychology; Mental Health Advisory Board; Essex County Mental Health Advisory Board; Commission of Mental Health Executive; Risk Management and Assessment Board; Psi Chi National Honors Society Psychology; Phi Omega Epsilon F.D.U. Honors Society; The World Who’s Who of Women for Distinguished Services 1993.  In Sussex County she was Past President of the American Association Of University Women and served on the Intra-Group Council.  In Georgetown Delaware Ms. Sikora was Co-Founder of the Garden Club: Arts and Flowers; Executive Board Member Georgetown Chamber of Commerce, Commissioner Planning and Zoning; Vice-Chair Economic Development Committee Member-Bus Project Georgetown to Amtrac; Chair of the Steering Committee to bring U.D. to Georgetown location; Georgetown Blueprint Community Team Member; 2001-2002 American Association of University Women Georgetown Delaware Platinum Branch Winner; 2005 Delaware State Senate Recognition member of Georgetown Planning Commission; 2008 Titled “Unsung Hero” By Greater Georgetown Chamber of Commerce for launching campaign for “Bring U of D Home.” In Myrtle Beach, she served on the Turnberry Park Property Owners Association Board of Directors Secretary: was a member of the Son’s and Daughters of Italy, Myrtle Beach Lodge 2662; the Book Club and Art Club.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Sikora is preceded in death by her infant son, Lawrence Salvatore Sikora and her daughter, Theresa (Terry) Lorraine Sikora.

Survivors include her daughter, Cathleen Mary Sikora Gutierrez of Hackensack, NJ; formerly of Lodi, NJ.

A Memorial Mass will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, August 11, 2022 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 542 Cypress Ave, Murrells Inlet, SC.  The service can be viewed via live steam by visiting www.saintmichaelsc.net
