Josephine (Baker) Smith

Josephine Smith, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday May 23, 2020 at the Lakes at Litchfield in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. She was born in Union County, North Carolina on October 7, 1930 to the late John C. & Annie Mae (Lowery) Baker.

Along with her parents, Josephine is reunited in death with her beloved husband, Jim Smith; daughters, Patti McCall & Carol Kirven; grandson, Richard Cowart; and her brothers, Ben Baker, Dan Baker, Croft Baker, & Baccum Baker.

Josephine was a hardworking woman with a heart of gold. Her tenacity allowed her to have a successful real estate career for many years. Her love for being active lead her to be a strong willed woman who worked security for Ivey’s Dept. Store, excelled at basketball and loved to cook family meals. Above all else, Josephine loved her family with her whole heart. She will be deeply missed.

Left to cherish Josephine’s memory are her grandsons, Travis McCall (Maxine), Trent McCall, & Brice Waters; great-granddaughter, Braelyn; son in-law, Ken McCall; sisters in-law, Doris Baker & Patty Baker; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins; a large, loving extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.

A Celebration of Josephine’s life will be held Wednesday May 27, 2020 at 1:00pm at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Rd., Charlotte, NC 28212.
