Joseph Peha

Joseph R Peha, 86, of Myrtle Beach, SC, formerly of Los Angeles, CA and Frankfurt, Germany, died on Sunday, November 5, 2023. He was born on August 7, 1937, in Hollywood, CA, to the late Morris and Katherine Peha.

Joe was an educator for 30 years; teaching in Los Angeles and for the Department of Defense in Japan, and Germany.  He impacted the lives of his students in such a meaningful way that many remain in contact and continue to express gratitude for the love of learning and true compassion that he shared.  He was a collector of antiques and classic cars. His favorites of his collection were the 1960 Cadillac and the 1962 Rolls Royce. Joe was a member of several classic car clubs including the local Chicora Car Club. In his younger years, Joe was an avid diver and skier. He founded the Shen Yi Ski Club for teachers and military members when he was teaching for the Department of Defense in Japan. He loved to travel the world and would always return with wonderful stories to share. 

Joe was loved by all who knew him. He could be found patiently building model rockets, recommending books or explaining a science concept to the children or sitting around the table with an attentive audience of adult friends as he told about one of his adventures.  Joe had a special way of making everyone feel important and heard.  His wisdom, kindness, advice, and love were sought out by many.

Preceded in death by his father, Morris Peha; mother, Katherine Peha; and his nephew, Michael Peha.

Survivors include his life partner of 37 years, Cathy DeSimone of Myrtle Beach, SC; and her children, Tony DeSimone of Mooresville, NC; and Kristen DeSimone of Cañon City, CO; two brothers, David (Shirlee) Peha of Torrence, CA, and John Peha of Ventura, CA; Nephew Larry (Julie) Peha; great nephews Sarkis and Michael Peha; great niece Jacqueline Peha along with many extended family members and friends.
