Joseph Lee Fields, 89, passed away peacefully with his adoring family by his side on Wednesday July 29, 2026 while at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was born on February 1, 1937 in Saint Albans, West Virginia to the late Donald & Margaret Oiler Fields.
Along with his parents, Joe is reunited in passing with his brothers, Jim, Charles, Donald Fields; and sisters, Betty, Helen, Pauline and Margaret.
Joe proudly served our country in the United States Air Force for well over 23 years. During his time on enlistment, he acted in many capacities including within the accounting office as well as club manager at the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. Following his honorable separation and a lifetime of service, Joe was able to enjoy the quiet life. Always one to stay active and provide for his family, Joe held many odd jobs that taught him much about life and made him a well-rounded individual. In his free time, Joe could be found cheering on his beloved West Virginia Mountaineers and Philadelphia Eagles while also traveling when he could. Joe loved a good book and was an avid reader. Above all else, Joe loved his family with his whole heart. He will be deeply missed.
Left to cherish Joe’s memory are his adoring wife of over 63 years, Mrs. Peggy Shabdue Fields of the home in Myrtle Beach; their children, Scott Fields and wife Zoe, Laura and Robert Ross & Heather and Reed Jenkins; the apple of his eye, his adoring grandchildren, Gene, Jessica, Cole, Dillon & Charles; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Morrow and Mary McKinney; brothers, John Fields as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins; a large, loving, extended family and many supportive friends and neighbors.
