John "Jack" Coons Obituary

John “Jack” William Coons, 84, of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at his residence. He was born February 22, 1942, in Hudson, New York, son of the late, Arthur William Coons and Ruth Edith Harp Coons.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean Coons; a son, William Coons; as well as a brother, James Coons.

He is survived by a daughter, Andrea Ulisano and her husband, Rick of Myrtle Beach, SC; a brother, Edward Coons of Hudson, NY; grandchildren, David Decker-Khan and his wife, Nadia of Raleigh, NC, Tyler Ryan and his wife, Claudia of Raleigh, NC, Chase Ulisano of Myrtle Beach, SC, Victoria Reynolds of West Sand Lake, NY, Alysha Chamberlain and her husband, Chris of Averill Park, NY and Zachariah Coons of Schenectady, NY; three great grandchildren, Avery Decker-Khan, Violet Chamberlain and Blake Chamberlain; and daughter-in-law, Grace Coons of Schenectady, NY.

Jack spent many years working as a lineman for New York Telephone Company. He was dedicated to serving others and spent many days and hours as a firefighter and was a member of the HW Rogers Hose Company #2 and the Valatie Rescue Squad. His commitment to helping his community reflected his generous spirit and sense of duty. He also proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

After retiring at the age of fifty, he cherished every moment spent with his beloved wife, family, and friends. Jack lived life to the fullest and enjoyed traveling with his wife on fifty-three cruises that took them all over the world. He especially loved family gatherings and a good barbecue, where his warmth, laughter, and storytelling brought people together.

Jack will be remembered for his love of family, dedication to service, adventurous spirit, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him.

A funeral service with military honors will be held 1:00pm Friday, June 19, 2026, at Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church, 2637 US-17 Business South, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.
