John Barry Walsh, Jr., 49, passed away peacefully and with his loving family by his side, after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday March 20, 2020 at his home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was born on May 23, 1970 in the Bronx, New York.
John proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. He was skilled and dedicated to his cause and earned the rank of Corporal. Following his honorable discharge and return to New Jersey, John became an electrical engineer. Upon his relocation to Myrtle Beach, John was a member of the American Legion and an active parishioner at St. Michael Catholic Church in Garden City. Above all else, John loved his family with his whole heart. He will be deeply missed for his courage, tenacity, strength and compassion.
Left to cherish John’s memory are his loving parents, John Walsh, Sr. & Helen Eileen (Reilly) Walsh of Myrtle Beach; his brother, Dennis Walsh of Myrtle Beach; sisters, Karen Mortensen and her husband, Randy of Myrtle Beach & Deidre Kumo and her husband, Scott of Columbia, SC; nieces, Shea & Haley; nephew, Avery; as well as many supportive friends, neighbors, and comrades.
John’s family will gather to greet friends on Friday March 27, 2020 from 5:00PM until 7:00PM at Burroughs Funeral Home, 3558 Old Kings Highway, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576. A Funeral Mass in celebration of John’s life will be held on Saturday March 28, 2020 at 10:00AM at St. Michael Catholic Church, 542 Cypress Ave. Garden City, SC 29576, where military honors will be accorded.
At the request of the family, in lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions in John’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
