John R. Thompson

John R. Thompson, Jr., 79, of Murrells Inlet, SC passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital. He was born on December 18, 1946, in Greensburg, PA, son of the late John R. Thompson, Sr. and Mary Emma Reese Thompson.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Scott Allen Thompson; as well as three brothers, Sonny Thompson, Alfred Thompson, Ted Thompson.

Survivors include his beloved wife of thirty years, Barbara Thompson of Murrells Inlet, SC; sons, Mike Thompson (Reva Huff) of Murrells Inlet, SC, James Thompson of Murrells Inlet, SC; daughters, Amy McGinnis of VA and Karie McKeel of PA; numerous  grandchildren and great grandchildren; nephews and cousins; a large, loving, extended family in PA; as well as many close friends who were like family.

John loved to scroll through Facebook and catch up with the world and people he knew. He also enjoyed visiting local pawn shops, watching cooking shows and buying and collecting tools.
