John Mitchell Obituary

John Taylor Mitchell, born January 7, 1949 formerly of Knoxville, died at his residence in Myrtle Beach, SC February 18, 2021 following a battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones as he was called home by his Lord and Savior.

He is preceded in death by his devoted parents, Clarence Beecher and Katherine “Imogene” Mitchell as well as his father-in-law, Ralph Roberts.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Debbie, and his beloved son, Justin; his sisters Donna Sembaluk of Pennsylvania and Janice (Dick) Helms and Sharon (Thomas Wright), both of Myrtle Beach and Sandy (Roger) Alexander of Knoxville; and brothers Ralph (Jill) Roberts of Ohio, Keith (Darla) Roberts of Chattanooga, and Robbie (Sara) of Clinton. He also survives many cherished cousins, an abundance of loving nieces and nephews and other extended family members.

Johnny graduated from Myrtle Beach High School in 1967. He was also a graduate of Horry Georgetown Technical College with a Civil Engineering Degree.
He was a proud Vietnam Veteran who served in the Army and was recently awarded Valor of Honor Quilt. As with all our brave service member heroes, they are gone but not forgotten.
He retired from Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge after 32 years.

The family wishes to thank Amedysis Hospice for their exemplary compassion and care during his time of need. Special thanks to Brooke, Dedra, Mark, and Ellie. Johnny also enjoyed his friends and family giving their time to him and visiting with on vacation.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am-12:00 pm, Thursday, February 25th at Mynatt Funeral Home Halls Chapel with the funeral service to follow with the Reverend Jeremiah Baker, Johnny’s beloved nephew, officiating at 12pm. The funeral service may be viewed at www.facebook.com/hallslivestream. Family and friends will then proceed to Union Baptist Church Cemetery (Washington Pike) for a graveside service with full military honors.
