John Stepanowski, 88, of Pawleys Island, SC, formerly of Fairfield, CT, passed away peacefully at his home on April 22, 2026.
He was born on August 7, 1937, in New Britain, CT to the late John and Lucy Stepanowski. He was a graduate of Rockville High School Class of 1955 and then served in the United States Navy from 1955 – 1958. He spent the majority of his career at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company starting as a sales agent, then agency manager and retiring as a director.
He married the love of his life, Jean, in 1958 and they raised two children, Anita and John. After more than 50 years together, Jean died in 2010. An avid golfer, he was a member of Mill River Country Club and enjoyed countless rounds of golf and golfing excursions with Len, Lou and Carm. He was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox. An excellent home chef, he was known for his linguine and claim sauce and escarole soup among other dishes.
In addition to Jean, he was predeceased by his son John in 2018. He is survived by his daughter Anita and son-in-law Tom Miller, brothers and sisters in-law, as well as many other family members and close, dear friends. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held in CT later this spring.
