John Orr Obituary

John David Orr, 71, of Conway, SC, formerly of Zionsville, IN, died Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at his home. John was born in Indianapolis, IN, to the late Ray and Edna Orr.

John and his wife Sandy, were married on April 18, 1970 in Delphi, IN. They enjoyed 51 years together on the lake going boating and going to Myrtle Beach before they eventually moved to South Carolina in 2001.

John proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1972. He was able to leave early by proclamation from President Richard Nixon.

John retired from an extensive career in medical technology that spanned 52 years before his retirement in June 2020.

John loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an organist for his church and also liked playing Christmas carols on the piano during the holidays. He liked to watch the Three Stooges, buying shoes, eating ice cream, bowling, watching Indiana Colts football and walking his black lab. John loved a good joke and enjoyed playing pranks on his family and friends. He had a passion for Corvettes, but his greatest passion was golf. He loved to shop for and buy fancy golf clubs and his family has no doubt he had a tee time lined up when he entered Heaven.

He was a member of Holy Lamb Lutheran Church and also the church organist, elder and president. John was also a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his sister Mary Lynn Weaver.

Survivors include his wife Sandra K. Simons of Conway, SC; one son, Christopher G. “Chris” Orr of Conway, SC;  two daughters, Nicole (Kenneth) McDowell of Nichols, SC and Rebecca (John) Oberle of Mandeville, LA; one brother in law, Joseph E. Weaver of Indianapolis, IN; three granddaughters, Brittany Orr, Anna Gonzales and Ella Oberle; two great grandchildren, Clementine Rose Robinson and Ray “Townes” Robinson along with several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to give a special thank you to Pastor Panning for his spiritual guidance, to his hospice and caregivers for their kindness and compassion and to many friends and family members for the love and support during John’s brave fight.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Holy Lamb Lutheran Church, 2541 Forestbrook Rd, Myrtle Beach, SC 29588. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
